1996 - medium bright colour, nice syrah nose, on palate all tannin resolved, presenting more like a mature Burgundy with decent flavour and length.

1997 - quite a bit darker, more complexity n the nose with some spice and dark fruit. This one still has soft tannin and excellent balance, with the acidity coming through in the midpalate. Long finish.

The 96 needs drinking. The 97 won't get any better, but it will hold awhile.

Bill, thanks so much for the fine notes. I really enjoyed the 1999 earlier this year. To me, it was indeed surprisingly Burgundian, so perhaps more like the 1996 than the 1997? Interesting.

Thanks again,
Michael
