WTN: '99 Wagner Finger Lakes Vidal Ice Wine

1999 Wagner, Estate Bottled, Finger Lakes Vidal Blanc Ice Wine ($18.99 375ml). Residual sugar: 15.4%. Alcohol level: 11.6%. I brought this back from our last visit to the FL. I waited for a good time to pop it, and last night shared some of it with a friend after dinner.

It gives you rich overripe peaches and pineapple on the nose and upfront. A honey like almost apricot elixir crosses the palate, and the finish lingered and lingered. We chose this one over the Riesling and Vignoles Ice Wines with no regrets, and fully intend to get some more next time over there. Fantastic!

I've never had one that old, but I do have a soft spot for sweeties after dinner. Good price for an ice wine.

Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

All three of the current bottlings (2006) are priced at $21.99 for 375ml.

I was very impressed with their Vignoles ice-wine when I was there..

but aren't they freezer wines -- which would account for the low price ?

They could be. The law was changed in 2003 or 2004, I believe, so that only frozen on the vine grapes, as in the Niagara Peninsula, wines could be called "Ice Wine".
