On Saturday I made a Riesling Grand Cru/GG-Tasting of the vintage 2007. WOTN was without any doubt 2007 Keller Abtserde GG.

line-up

Battenfeld-Spanier "Frauenberg" und "CO"
Emrich Schönleber "Halenberg"
Dönnhoff "Hermannshöhle"
Wittman "Kirchspiel"
A. Christmann "Idig"
Rebholz "Kastanienbusch"
Schäfer-Fröhlich "Felseneck"
Kühling-Gillot "Pettenthal"
Keller "Kirchspiel"
Keller "Hubacker"
Keller "Morstein"
Keller "Abtserde"
Keller "G-Max"

How dry is "dry" in these, Martin? Are all GG technically "trocken", i.e. max. 9g/l RS versus 7g/l acidity, I think?

At these maxima, I find perceptible RS but usually enough liveliness to work well with food. The world's "average consumer" seems to want "dry" wines to be slightly sweet.

Tim,

they were almost all bonedry Rieslings. If you´re looking for a dry Riesling with a touch sweetness, then keep your eyes open for 07 Keller "von der Fels".
Here you will find Grand Cru Quality for a half of the price, around 15 Euro. In addition, a great aging potential. Here is a source:

All the best,
Martin

Nice line-up, Martin. We had a very similar set of wines recently. Hubacker had a slight edge in the votes over Abtserde. Herrmannshöhle came 3rd. G-Max was not in the main tasting. Anyway, these rankings should not be taken too seriously. A few mothns back, Hubacker was my least favotite of Keller's 07 GG wines, but in the tasting it was my No1. Halenberg showed rather disappointingly for us. How was it in your tasting?

You´re right Peter, it is only a "Momentaufnahme". On the other hand, the "Abtserde" was on Saturday such out of this world, he clearly left all behind. And this is not only my personal view, it was the view of all participants. The 07 Abtserde reminded me on a 04 G-Max, which Tino Seiwert brought to Berlin a few years ago. Halenberg was terrific, my favourite Riesling of the Gutswein in Berlin. BTW, here is another view of the tasting, only in german by Nikolai L. Finally, I should point out it was a blind-tasting.

Alles Gute,
Martin

Well I guess I don't feel too bad about the 6-pack of 2007 Donnhoff GG (2 Felsenberg, 2 Dellchen & 2 Hermannshohle) headed my way.
