2001 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Auslese * - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (7/19/2014)
As expected, this was a stellar bottle. Still plenty of tree fruit and
endless minerality. The balance is spot on, with a saltiness emerging to blend with the fruit. Just a little air brings out more complexity, as smoky elements emerge to join the fruit. The wine builds through the mid-palate, and the finish hangs on for as long as anyone cares to wait. This wine is in a fabulous place right now. I doubt it can get better, as it is pretty much perfect right now. Likely to hold on a plateau for some time.
