WTN: Lobster and Champagne for 25th anniversary

by David M. Bueker » Tue Aug 12, 2014 9:30 pm

1990 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut - France, Champagne (8/12/2014)
Served with steamed lobsters for our 25th anniversary dinner, this was a breathtaking bottle of Champagne that demonstrated the class and refinement of Cristal. From the pinpoint mousse to the elegant, mature flavors, this bottle showed as well as could ever be expected. Nuts, warm bread, apple and toasty elements dominated at first, but freshened with time and with the partnership of lobster and lemon. The brightness on tbe palate was a little bit unexpected from a ripe vintage wine, but very welcome, as it balanced the depth and richness of the flavors. Overall a truly outstanding bottle, worthy of the occasion.

NICE! Happy Anniversary again. You've set my mouth on fire, may have to open one of my three remaining bottles--my birth fortnight begins very soon, and crab season opens on Friday. A mere coincidence? I think not!

Congratulations on the landmark anniversary. Silver bells, silver bells. (It is the silver anniversary isn't it (although Cristal isn't bad)

Does that mean that when your hair turns silver you'll have to dye it gold?

Happy Anniversary! Our 25th anniversary Champagne is already laid down (though we're not quite half way there yet).

Congratulations, David, and a wine to fit the occasion.

I have so far been overwhelmed by Cristal's price and underwhelmed by its QPR but have never had a bottle of that maturity.
