WTN: Fill in the Blanck

2001 Paul Blanck Gewurztraminer Furstentum Vieilles Vignes - France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru AOC (8/17/2014)
Lovely mature Gewurztraminer! This had plenty of pineapple and lychee elements, as we ll as a bit of a smoky edge. Just slightly sweet, but quite rich in mouthfeel, the overall impression was of a fully mature wine that is going to hold in a window of drinkability for a good while. Enjoy with food (I had it with a moderately spicy Indian lentil stew) or on its own.

Dave, had two 2009 PB Gewurz in the 'pop-top' bottles. Both were off--closer to premox but not exactly. I assume yours was cork.

Yes. Cork.

Never had any issues with the glass tops. I assume that is what you are talking about.

Dave, not glass stoppers, I mean the old soda bottle cap stoppers that you needed a church key to open. Only saw that on this recent year's bottles.

Hmm, have not seen that with Blanck. Just seen it on inexpensive Austrian liter bottles.

Our favorite Joe Huber said when he and Beth visited PB that PB was trying various closures.

No idea how long a crown cap is supposed to really keep things fresh. Have to wonder if your Gewurz was intended for really early drinking, with teh closure selected to show it.

Pierre Frick in Alsace uses (or at least used to) crown caps.
I'd think pretty secure from oxygen ingress, but no real data.
