WTN: Donkey&Goat Roussanne '09...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Sep 02, 2014 10:11 am

Tried this last night w/ my corn-on-the-cob:
1. Donkey&Goat Roussanne StoneCrusher ElDorado (13.3%; u; EllenRidgeVnyd; 58 cs; frmtd on skins for 9 days) 2009: Deep golden/burnished bronze bit cloudy color; distinctly phenolic/resiny/savory quite honeyed/orangey some stony/granitic/earthy quite fragrant fairly complex nose; rather tart quite phenolic/resiny/cidery very orangey/honeyed stony/earthy slight floral complex flavor w/ slight tannic/bitter character; very long/lingering phenolic/cidery/savory/resiny quite honeyed/orangey bit stony/earthy/ElDorado fairly lush/spicy rather complex finish w/ light/bitey tannins; no Roussanne character that I can detect; seems to be developing into quite an interesting wine. $20.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I remember trying this wine upon release and distinctly not likeing it because of it lean/hard/austere character and rather hard/unyielding tannins. It seems to have mellowed considerably and developed a strong orangey/honeyed character. Clearly a skin-contact white and very interesting, but becoming much more attractive.
