WTN: Donkey&Goat MendoMelange Syrah '08..(short/boring)

Tried this over the weekend w/ Susan:
1. Donkey&Goat TheWhiteLabel MensocinoMelange Syrah Mendocino (14.2%; www.DonkeyAndGoat.com) 2008: Very dark color; very earthy/dusty/OV rather Mendocino/tomatoey bit peppery/blackberry/Syrah nose; bit tart/lean very earthy/dusty/OV tomatoey/Mendo slight blackberry/Syrah flavor w/ some hard/earthy tannins; med.long very earthy/dusty/OV tomatoey/Mendo slight blackberry/blueberry/Syrah finish w/ some rough/coarse tannins; speaks strongly of MendoCnty w/ that tomatoey/tomatoe sauce character; a quite earthy/rustic/coarse Syrah w/ a paucity of fruit and more like a Languedoc or MtEtna Syrah; rather interesting if atypical Calif Syrah.

A wee BlooyPulpit:
1. D&G takes Syrah from Valenti & Perli vnyds in MendoCnty. From the profile of this wine, I suspect it came mostly from GibsonRanch/McDowellVllyVnyds. I believe they were buying grapes from BillyCrawfor back in those days.

Didn't realize they grew syrah on Mt. Etna, but I imagine it wouldn't garner the Etna DOC . . .

I don't know that, Keith. But I wouldn't be surprised that sombody has planted some. I've never seen one, though.
