WTN: Grand Alsatian Grand Cru Gewurztraminer

by Jim Grow » Fri Sep 19, 2014 7:57 pm

2011 Zinck Eichberg Gewurztraminer was quite memorable. I have had a few lesser Zinck Gewurztraminers that have been very nice or at least O.K. but this was VERY EXCELLENT. The spicey pear and rose petal with lychee note was wonderful but the acid balance was fabulous and extremely cleansing. The finish was medium-long and quite viscous. The only down-side was the price....$32 at the village Corner in Ann Arbor. A few tartrate crystals were noted. ABV of %13.5

I know the Alsatians can overdo things with the Grand Cru designations sometimes. But how much cheaper did you want this wine to be?

That strikes me as a pretty decent price for an Alsace GC...in today's market. However, it would be nice if I could get it
for the $3.79 I paid for the Dopff Eichberg '71 back in '73. We buought a ton of that stuff.
