WTN: More Bottom Feeding @ TotalWines....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Apr 15, 2024 2:39 pm

Tried these two wines from Total Wines last night:
1. Vignobles Chirat Les Chays AC: Condrieu (15.5%; 100% Viognier; SarrantyImprts) Gilbert & Aurelien Chirat 2019: Med.dark gold color; quiet pear/Viog/peach slight earthy pleasant enough if understated nose; rather soft fairly rich/lush light/quiet pera/peach/Viog very understated near vapid slight earthy flavor; short soft light poear/Viog finish that mirrors the flavor; a very vapid/dull rendition of Viog w/ the only thing going fr it is the rich texture; lacks acidity & flavor and the most dull/vapid Condrieu I've ever had; way overpriced at $67.00 (TW)

2. Ch.de La Roulerie AC: Coteau du Layon (11.5%; 100% CheninBlanc; SarrantyImprts/Stamford/CT) Philippe et Marie Germain/Aubin de la Roulerie 2020: Med.dark gold color; some stony/mineral bit steely light CB/floral/ripe pear pleasant simple nose; quite sweet rather soft/flabby light CB/floral/pear simple/pleasant flavor; med.short light CB/floral/pear/candied rather soft very sweet finish that follows flavor; a pleasant/simple candied CB that veers toward the vapid; speaks of the Loire w/ a whisper. $22.00 (TW)

More zittlecrit from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I seldom bother to go into Total Wines because most of the wines I try from there are huge disappointments. And they all, of course, bear the label of Sarranty Imprts. I good chef friend served this Condrieu at a wine dinner a week ago & it received some glowing reviews. So I thought I would give the wine a shot. I almost never buy a Sarranty Imprts wine at this price point. But Sarranty comes thru again w/ another dullard at a rip-off price.

Well, David... I will occasionally find something I can recommend from TW's. Usually it's a dessert wine. Which is why I tried the Coteaux du Layon. But it was not to be this time.
