Yesterday at my favorite farm stand

by Cynthia Wenslow » Sun Oct 07, 2007 1:55 pm

I went to Taos yesterday for the annual Taos Wool Festival. And I purposely took the low road so I could go through the little village of Velarde, where my favorite farm stand, The Fruit Basket, is located.

They have so much good stuff there, that's it's really difficult to stick to any kind of list.

Image
Locally produced canned goods are abundant. These are jars of cherry chutney.

I picked up: peach butter; green chile honey; red raspberry/white peach jam; apple butter (since I haven't made any yet this autumn); hot corn relish with chiles; and local honey.

Image
And tomatoes.

And of course they have ristras. I pick up a new one here every year.

Image
Last year's ristra, looking a little less than inviting.

The brand new ristra.

For breakfast this morning, I made drop biscuits.

Image
Slathered them with peach butter.

Life is good.

Cynth, those pics are toooo gorgeous. Do you actually use the chillis off your ristra, or just hang it for decoration ? I tried to make one once - all I got were mouldy chillis and those annoying little fruit flies.. :)

This ristra will just be decorative on my front portal, but the chiles could be used.

Beautiful pictures Cynthia. I located their telephone number online. I'd love to order a few things, so I am hoping they ship. I have never seen a prettier ristra.

I wish they were within driving distance of us ! That is definitely the prettiest outside fruit display I've ever seen...

I assume that they immediately hired you to do the art for their website? 8)

But Stuart, I LIKE the water bucket (almost as much as the hose  ).

Watch out, RJ. For the difficult ones, Stuart doesn't put any water in the bucket.

Your own fault, girl, for being too gorgeous. Got all the men hot under the collar... :)
