Think the glassware in your hotel is clean?

Just ONE of the reasons we have an RV. Have you ever seen the one on TV where they show what is on the bedspreads and carpets, using the black lights that show blood, etc. OMG - so scary.

For a vegetarian drinking all those little microorganisms must be a horrible thought ... or aren't microbes meat?

A very close friend of mine was a GM (general manager) at some very high end hotels for most of his career. He *never* uses the glasses or ice buckets in the room when he travels, and *always* carries antibacterial wipes and wipes down handles, phones, and toilet seats before using them after checking in.

So do I since listening to some of his stories.

I spend a fair amount of time in hotel rooms. And while I don't ever use the glasses, there's sometimes an occasion (like a room party---when a bunch of fellow co-workers/crew members gather together for a party in someone's room) where we need a glass. If that's the case, lots of soap and hot water.

I'm still here and healthy as can be. I hope...

I have been aware of this type of unsanitary practice for decades. As a kid, travelling with my mother, we observed a motel maid "wash" the drinking glasses with the same rag she had used to wipe down the toilet.

Think about it. Whenever you see the housekeeping cart that the maids roll through the hallways, you almost never see fresh and clean glasses on it, or dirty ones being removed for proper cleaning. Same goes for those coffee mugs you sometimes see next to the coffeemaker in a hotel room.

Ugghhh...that is so scary Jenise. Hubby spends most of his days in hotels...and my In-laws are going to be staying at the Embassy Suites hotel for the next few weeks...I don't think I will show them that video!

I saw that clip--it makes me sick just to remember it! Maybe you've got the right idea in the RV, Karen!

I think I'll take the antibacterial wipe practice with me the next time...

Reminds me of a practical joke I once played on my wife.
I went into the kitchen, where Cindy was busily scrubbing potatoes with a long handled brush that she keeps under the sink for that purpose.
Thinking quickly for a way to torment her (because that's what I do) I asked her why she was using the toilet brush to clean our food.
"That's not a toilet brush, you idiot, it's a vegetable brush," she replied.
"Oh really?" "That's funny, because just this morning....." I then went on to describe, in graphic, if imaginary detail, what I'd used the brush for last.
Of course she fell for it, hook, line and sinker. The look of disgust on her face was truly priceless.
....maybe you had to be there.

Anyway, that's pretty disgusting about the hotels. I guess I'll have to start carrying my own bleach.
