Pepper price?

by Larry Greenly » Wed Feb 20, 2008 10:57 pm

Hopefully, this is a simple question. I spied some McCormick whole Tellicherry black pepper (1.26 oz in its own grinder) for $1/each. Is that a reasonable price if one were to buy a few of them?

How's the freshness?

I'll have to check to see if there is a date on them, but we're not talking about just a few, lonely jars--there's boxes and boxes of them.

Well you could use the trick we used to do in the days when Trader Joe's used to carry inexpensive wine- buy a bottle for a buck, walk outside, open it, smell and taste. If it's good, buy a few more.

But think about the rate you use it. Nothing worse than having unopened bottles which have already faded.
