What's cooking this weekend, people ?

It's Friday here, so we're planning for the weekend. Tonight the boys have requested pizzas - sigh...there's been so much "breaded product" in the house this week that I'm starting to feel like the Talky Toaster from Red Dwarf.

Then tomorrow we have to make easter chocolates for the kids at school. Oh, and hot cross buns !

What's on the agenda for your weekend ?

I'm afraid I'm going to be in a bachelorette funk .. my son and husband will be at a chess tournament all weekend and then they leave for a week for the spring break college tour routine. I will be alone and I'm not good at cooking
anything special for one.

Dunno. But certainly asparagus and goat cheese pizza (or maybe a tart) will make an appearance.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record... pizza.

I am probably going to bake something yummy too, but I can't decide what. Maybe something lemony. Hmm.

On the home front here, we have a Cheers get together tomorrow so I won't be cooking (except what I take to Cheers). Tentatively, Saturday may be a pizza night and Sunday may be Shrimp Creole.

Saturday I am hosting my annual premature St. Patrick's Day feast. Only one of the people attending is actually Irish, but we all enjoy acting like Irishmen/Irishwomen one night out of the year. I'll be making corned beef brisket and stout braised short ribs for the main course.

Hopefully everyone from the previous evening will be gone and Sunday will be pan fried, right out of a local lake, Blue Gill with my girlfriend.

Let's see, Friday will probably be similar to many other Fridays, we'll meet friends at the local roadhouse for a serviceable meal and a few beers. Saturday is Cindy's birthday; we are going to a new winebar/retail store/restaurant for dinner. Sunday will probably be a stew day or maybe some fresh fish. OTOH, Sunday could be golf day too!!! The weather may have turned to spring; it certainly is a lot better than 6 days ago.

My kitchen is somewhat back together -- finally enough for me to begin to cook again. Saturday -- ribs for sure -- on the webber!

Not too much cooking going on here this weekend. I'm teaching all day today, so dinner will most likely be leftover mac and cheese from the other night. We have a Barolo dinner to attend tomorrow night. (Although, I'm hoping to get out of it..Then I will cook something nice and light for mysefl). Then, a group of us are hosting an engagement party for some friends on Sunday. I'm just doing some minor cooking.

NO idea! Discussing marinara sauce with Frank here the other day has left me with an ongoing jones for pasta marinara--maybe gnocchi instead. And that could be tonight. Tomorrow night I'll be dining with some fanatics, Sunday...not a clue. Depends a lot on the weather.

Update: I nuked green chile and cheese tamales from Posa's tonight. Not very inspiring, but delicious.

Update: Picked up a piece of salmon at my local fishmonger and roasted it with a little Meyer lemon and leftover bubbles. Opened a '03 Williams Selyem Sonoma Coast, but found myself really enjoying the salmon more with the leftover NV Tribaut Cuvee Rene.

Update from me too : we had pizzas last night as planned, and I've now got a lemon buttermilk cake in the oven. Still haven't got around to hot cross buns and easter chocolates yet - it's been so HOT here these last few days...

Celia, if you are referring to my posts, our Cheers nights are when a group of friends get together at someone's house and bring wine and food. It's sort of like a pot luck, but it is mostly munchies and not a real meal. I took the salsa and "scoops" chips. I've taken things like brownies, honey bun cake, pinwheels made with puff pastry (like palmiers), quesadillas, pigs in blankets (little wieners wrapped in biscuits), artichoke dip, pasta salad. Sometimes we have a theme for the wine or food. One night it was Italian with pizza, lasagna, sausages, salads, etc. We get together every 2 weeks or so depending on holidays and folks' schedules.

This all started when the wine shop we all frequented decided to close. They sold wine by the glass and people started gathering on Friday nights to socialize. For the last month they were open, it was an official Friday night pot luck, and everyone brought something to eat. Over the Memorial Day weekend last year right before they closed, we had a cookout and decided to keep a good thing going and started meeting at people's houses. There are over 30 people in the group and you never know who is going to show up. We are quite a diverse bunch. One couple in our group are caterers, and they always bring good food.

The reason we call it Cheers is because it is like the TV show in that it's a group of strangers who became friends and "everyone knows your name".

I'm just beginning to feel human after losing the better part of the week to a nasty cold.
Not sure if I'm up to anything requiring too much effort.
Last night my wife made me a frittata with artichoke hearts and roasted peppers - we have a lot of both of those items leftover from a recent party. Anything we make over the next few days is likely to include them as ingredients.

Tonight I'm going to the "soft" opening of a new restaurant in (God help them) Youngstown, OH. Two of my friends, Lorenzo and Nunzio - what do those names tell you? - who were over for the oxtail last weekend are about ready for prime time.

Tapazza will serve tapas and Neopolitan style pizza primarily.
