RCP: Orange Carrots

by Martin Barz » Fri May 02, 2008 2:34 am

You may wonder why I present such a simple side dish. But the use of orange peel transform the ordinary carrots to something special.

Ingredients (serves 2):
700g carrots
1 organic orange
30g butter
1tbsp olive oil
1tsp sugar
splash hot water

Hi Martin,

That is a side dish I serve often in my home. Simple, quick and easy to prepare. I use honey instead of sugar but it is basically the same. Once in a while, I add a little Bourbon (not sure how to say that in German; it is a very strong liquor from Kentucky USA) and cardamom. The Bourbon and cardamom may sound like strange additions, but they compliment the carrots and orange very well while adding a couple rising levels of flavor.

Hi Dave,

you add Bourbon Whiskey to carrots?! Sounds fascinating!! Cardamom is not strange for carrots, certainly a perfect match for all kind of
game birds like pigeon, quail and partridge.

David, I am trying to imagine what (if any) wine you would serve with a bourbon flavored dish like this.

Chateau Beam. Any vintage will do.
