Jamie Oliver Flavor Shaker

A friend from the UK asked me if I'd seen this thing yet. Apparently it's not available in the US, so she's having her mother buy/ship her one. Interesting, I suppose, but hardly a must have. Kind of an enclosed mortar and pestle.

Jamie Oliver: The man who advertises Sainsburys, yet whose wife shops at Waitrose

Does it come with a pull string and emit phrases like:
"Pukka!"
"Happy Days"
"Wazz it"
:?:

I've seen the product, but like you can't see myself handicapped by not having it.

Another proud graduate of the Ron Popeil School of Gimmickry.

Does anyone else think Oliver's lips look weird?

They're kind of liver colored. Reminds me of a guy I knew in high school who had purple lips because of a heart condition.

I've got one (it was a giveaway at a trade show). Shaped roughly like a duckpin, with a ball inside roughly the consistency of a lacrosse ball and about 7/8" diameter to do the dirty work.

It's OK, but the plastic absorbs aromas pretty quickly and it takes a wrist with muscle and endurance to work effectively; if you have a 12 year old boy in the house, you're covered. Otherwise, a small blender or a decent mortar and pestle will do a better job with less effort.

Silly gadget......watch the great chefs, they have none of that stuff. Most of their tools (including hands/fingers) are used for multi-tasking. Jamie was paid to show that "thing", as silly as it is!

Although it doesn't seem to be a totally useless object, I have to say that whatever respect I had for Jamie Oliver went away with that video.

(And yeah, my wrists have steadily declined in strength since the age of 14 or so.)
