No cooking for me this weekend at all. Yesterday was a day trip away, and tonight we're going to a friend's for BBQ.

Dave, never heard of your Turds, but is this by any chance a recipe you got from Mr. Kotch? Sounds like something he'd serve with his Hot Virgin Doves.

Friday night was a graduation party, so grazed there.

Last night was dinner out before Jersey Boys. Had marlin on risotto plated with chopped mango and pea puree with mint all topped with marinated carrots.

Tonight we will sautee some softshell crabs. Then, grill the first Copper River salmon of the season here. mmmmmmm!

:D Nope, we cannot blame our buddy Mike for this creation. I received the recipe indirectly from a Moroccan gentleman.

Should I ask Mike for the Hot Virgin Doves recipe or is that something I am better off not knowing?

Traci - not sure if you subscribe to Fine Cooking but most recent issue had a big article on the revival of baked beans and some interesting recipes including one with sherry and chorizo.

Have not tried them as baked beans and high rise in Tokyo with no grill is a bad combo - but maybe this summer at the beach I will

I made some scones. I fairly frequently make scones on Sundays and try different recipes. I was perusing an old Sunset cookbook Saturday night and spied a recipe that turned out to be rather outstanding.

I enjoyed the photos too, Jeff--I love the composed look of the mis en place all ready to go. And what a clever, compact little porch grill. Obviously there's no problem getting a hot fire, and yet it doesn't seem you have to worry about flying embers either.

Yes, this little copper bucket has been quite the treasure. It fits my teensy little balcony. If only the grill were a little bigger... there's no room to set a piece of food aside to keep it out of the intense heat.

Well, you'd have to have access to two ingredients you're not likely to have on hand, dove breasts and the jalapeno marinated cherries that provide the hot and virgin parts. Delicious little things, but pretty much unknown outside of Mike's house.

No set time Jenise - have been here 2 1/2 years and likely it will be 1 more or 4 more (I have a son who grqaduates next year from high school and then my youngest will have just finished 9th grade - so we would likely either move then so he can do three years somewhere or stay in Tokyo. If we stay though that will mean 7 years in Tokyo - which wasn't exactly what i had in mind when I left the US!!

Have to say though that getting back to the US is not all that compelling to me either....hoping to find somethin in London or Paris and that will round things out...US, Argentina, Tokyo and Europe....not bad
