RCP: Copycat Asian Spice Blend

by Larry Greenly » Mon Oct 30, 2006 12:51 am

Melissa's Asian Spice Blend is a wonderfully fragrant and tasty mix of spices for use in a grinder. I dissected a representative sample and arrived at this close approximation (yes, I do have better things to do, but I can't help myself):

Copycat Asian Spice Blend

1/4 tsp coarse sea salt
1/2 tsp sesame seeds
1 tsp black peppercorns
1.5 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp coriander seeds
1/2 tsp dried, minced garlic
1/2 tsp dried, minced onion
1/2 tsp cinnamon stick, broken into small pieces
1/4 tsp dried, minced ginger
10 whole cloves
1/4 tsp aniseseed

Mix together. Keep mixture in grinder.

I'm glad you don't actually have better things to do.

Thanks, Larry. This looks good!

Ooh, how'd I miss this before?

Looks great, Larry. Ground up, this would be a sensational dry rub for duck or ribs, wouldn't it?

I can't believe how fragrant it is when you grind it. And if you don't want to copy it, you can always buy a bottle at the supermarket.
