Since it's New Years, I couldn't resist asking a champagne question that is food related.

What three foods/snacks do you find yourself pairing with champagne most often?

I ask this because the possibilities could be endless.

The three foods I tend to eat the most with the king of wines includes:

Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Peanuts
Popcorn

I actually don't eat full course meals with champagne all that often. Usually preferring a cheese based sandwich or a salty snack of some type.

Smoked salmon
Roast chicken
Wensleydale cheese

Wensleydale cheese can't really be termed 'most often' because it is horribly hard to get hold of, but the two flavours go well together.

Caviar (SO good with Salon)
Pan roasted quail with any fairly delicate sauce, for a younger Blanc de Blancs
Duck rillettes over baguette with a Blanc de Noirs

Over this Christmas period I've found a new match - miniature Melton Mowbray pork pies - they go just great with Champagne!

We usually have Champagne as an aperitif before Sunday dinner, moving onto red with the food.

But fish and chips and Champagne makes a perfect match.

This is Rich Man's Fish and Chips at the ***** Marine Hotel on the cliff at Hermanus, South Africa. It's a tradition for us to go there at least once when in the Cape, and have a bottle (not of Champagne of course, that'd be silly) but of Villiera Tradition Brut Methode Cap Classique - glass just in shot top right - which has the added bonus for me of some Pinotage in the cepage.

I love Champagne and sparkling wine and enjoyed a bottle of Schramsberg Mirabelle Brut with a hamburger in the Intercontinental, Monterey on outr last full day in California in November.

Whatever it is, fizz makes it better :)

For me:
Smoked salmon, (really salmon of almost any type.)
Gougeres
Everything else, I mean, is there something that really does not go with Champagne?
