I don't think this has been brought up before but I could be wrong. I know I started a thread once about how awful it is to put raisins in oatmeal cookies. Just kidding...:)

But what about nuts in a chocolate chip cookie?

Let the debate begin! :)

We don't do that. But as a kid -- I think black walnuts are something of the South, where the trees grow in people's yards, and you have to go to extreme lengths to get the damn things out of their very thick shells. But my mother loved having free food from the lawn, I think, and she must have loved black walnuts because she put them in cookies, in fudge, and sprinkled them on ice cream. I don't even know how to obtain black walnuts now. If I could find them I might put them into a batch of chocolate chip cookies just because it would take me back to my youth.

I'm definitely "no way".

Must. It adds flavor and texture with an ingredient that is entirely compatible with its setting. Choco-chips without nuts seem bland and boring to me.

We put chopped pecans in ours, but don't care if someone else leaves them out.

We have a bazoodle of Black Walnut trees on the homestead. Remind me in the autumn and I'll fight off the squirrels, a/k/a tree rats, and send you some. :P

Oddly, I was just outside and made a mental note that there are lots of hickory nuts still on the ground...relatively mild winter I guess.

Nothing is ever a 'must' when it comes to chocolate!

Sure, you can add ingredients and transform the cookie/dish into something else delicious. But chocolate is more than capable of holding its own as the dominant flavor!

Chocolate Chip Nut Cookies are different from Chocolate Chip Cookies, eh?
