Liked this one a lot. Based on the story of Mitterand's private chef at the Elysee palace, it will interest foodies.

Best segment - she whips up a night time snack for the president - a toasted piece of bread with butter, and a whole black truffle sliced over it. Served with a bottle of 1969 Ch. Rayas. Oh momma!

And now it's off of our list - we watched it last night. It's a charming movie, although I was annoyingly jealous watching her come up with all of those boxes of truffles and perfect ceps. The kicker was the scene with the whole truffle on toast and the Rayas. Despite my nasty case of envy, it was a nice little weekday movie. We enjoyed it - thanks again, Bill.

We watched it a few months ago -- it was a neat situation, with Mitterand looking for food his grandma would have made. I get the impression that she really never had pretensions of being a "great chef" in the usual sense, but just had a very deft hand with regional dishes from the "right" region of France. And she would get those perfect mushrooms and truffles by hopping on the train and going home. Naturally there had to be an eventual collision with the bureaucracy, and with the males who DID consider themselves "great chefs."

Of course she is a real person and still active -- she's trying to work out how to grow truffles in New Zealand forests.
