Best Wine with a Tuna Sandwich

by Bill Spohn » Mon Aug 25, 2014 7:43 pm

Made some tuna sandwiches the other day - used artisanal green olive bread, and added chopped shallot and celery to the tuna for texture, and some curry for flavour.

I pulled what I thought would be a perfect match for wine (OK, not always something you worry about with sandwiches) and wondered if you'd agree.

What would your best guess for a wine (white or red, no restrictions) be with that dish? I'll tell you what mine was after we get a few responses.

Chablis is where I'd go.

A fairly fruity dry rose?

a good dry Rosé, a sparkling wine (Champagne, Cava). Beaujolais (Régnié, Chiroubles or even a Beaujolais Villages) could work well too with the olives and the shallots in the sandwich.

Lots of great suggestions. The one I went for was a Gewurztraminer - slightly off dry and spicy melded with the curry and other flavopurs in the sandwich.

I also thought of a Kabinett, but I like all of the suggestions - may have to lay in a store of tuna and embark on a definitive study!!

Makes perfect sense with the curry. I had defaulted to matching with my own version of the tuna sandwich--onions and celery only. Speaking of which, I've never had wine with a tuna sandwich, so you're one ahead of me.
