Chicken parts

by Jenise » Mon Oct 17, 2022 3:24 pm

I broasted two leg-thigh combos for last night's dinner, and we could barely eat them. They were Smart Chicken brand and each had huge bloody veins that had leaked into both the leg and thigh portions. Had to cut so much away we ended up throwing about half the meat out, and I was so put off I didn't want what I had. Must be taking shortcuts in the processing because the two legs were so different in size they were obviously not from the same bird.

Really disgusting.

That is so weird. I started buying Smart Chicken when Foster Farms had so many recalls. I loved it, chicken had a fresh flavor, cooked up nicely, never anything like you described. Lately, I cannot find whole chickens in my local grocer's meat section. Only, the cut up ones. I wonder if they have changed hands? So, I did some checking around and did not find anything. I'd call Smart Chicken and tell them the issue. My guess is they will send you coupons for some free product. Strange things happen sometimes and I have had good luck with the reporting of it.

Smart Chicken products are readily available around here. I favor Mary's Air Chilled if I can't get local birds. I only buy Smart Chicken because I like the leg quarters, and SC is the only seller of that specific product. I should just buy whole Mary's and carve them up myself.

I used to buy Mary's chickens when we lived in Humboldt Co on the coast of Eureka, have not seen it here, but I should check our local health food stores. Good reminder, thanks, going to be in that side of town this morning.
