Taylor Fladgate 1994 Late Bottled Vintage Porto ($16.99)
Blackish-purple, opaque in the glass. A marked licorice aroma dominates black fruit; flavors follow, sticky sweet with plummy fruit and anise flavors, warm and a bit rough with alcohol, acidity and tannins; soften and mellows somewhat after an hour in the glass. Simple, a bit coarse; there's no use pretending that late-bottled vintage ("LBV") Port is up to the quality of true Vintage Port - but then, especially at this blowout sale price, it's a mere fraction of the cost. U.S. importer: Kobrand Corp., NYC. (March 26, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: After-dinner sipping.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
