Domaine Cauhape 1996 Jurançon Sec Chant des Vignes ($6.99)
This one's for the "anything but Chardonnay" crowd: A crisp, dry white that's, well, different. Clear gold in color, it breathes rich honey and apple aromas; dry and rich on the palate, it mingles bitter-almond and white-fruit flavors, clean and lasting: a low-price treat. U.S. importer: Wines of France Inc., Mountainside, N.J. (Jan. 9, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: The wine's exotic flavors marry well with an Asian-style pork and spinach stir-fry.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
