Reds Laurel Glen 1998 "Reds" California Table Wine ($7.99)
Dark ruby in color, with plummy fruit and earthy forest-floor aroma notes, perhaps signaling the presence of Mourvèdre in the blend. Bright and juicy fruit flavors, fresh and tart. This is one California wine with the depth and earthy flavor complexity to make a surprising "ringer" in a group of Mediterranean table reds ... as the multilingual "Rouge, Rosso, Tinto" on the label suggests was wine maker Patrick Campbell's intention. An exceptional value for under $10. (Aug. 8, 2000)

FOOD MATCH: Made for red meat but works nicely with the sweet, tangy flavors of a caprese salad, summer tomatoes topped with fresh mozzarella and basil.
