Bonny Doon 1998 Vin Gris de Cigare California Pink Wine ($9.49)
As summer fades into autumn, we close out the rosé wine season with a ripe, deep pink wine that's trying its best to act red. Clear reddish-orange, quite dark for a rosé, it shows full raspberry and green herbal aromas. Bone-dry and crisply acidic, it's no mere "blush" but a flavorful, dry table wine, more reminiscent of Provence than California, fine with food. (Oct. 13, 1999)
FOOD MATCH: Works very well with a frittata with green and red bell peppers, onions and potatoes.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
