Previous day's wine note
|Château Cardus 1995 Médoc ($9.99)|
Inky dark purple, almost black, with a pleasant, surprisingly complex aroma of plummy fruit, smoke, leather and a whiff of the barnyard. Full and ripe, black fruit and crisp acidity. Earthy flavors follow the nose, making a wine that's more "rustic" than elegant but highly enjoyable, and a particular bargain for less than $10. U.S. importer: Seagram Chateau & Estate Wines Inc., NYC. (Nov. 3, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: A natural companion with rare lamb-leg steaks.
|Domaine de la Gautière 1999 Provence ($8.99)|
Clear ruby, with fresh aromas of light pepper, herbs and black fruit. A hint of fresh-fruit sweetness over fragrant pepper on the palate. U.S. importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, Calif. (Nov. 3, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Good quaff, if a bit on the light side for lamb steaks.
Wine notes in 'shelf-hanger' format:
We are now publishing Wine Lovers' Page wine reports in the familiar "shelf-hanger" size and format, to make it easy for wine merchants or collectors to print them out, clip and post them where this wine is displayed. We do ask, however, that the Wine Lovers' Page name and URL be left intact, and that these reports be used with the specific wines rated, not different bottlings or vintages.
All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I accept no free samples from wineries or distributors, purchasing all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
Have you tasted these wines?
E-mail me your tasting notes, and I'll consider adding them to this page.
